INDEPENDENCE DAY
At 8:00 a.m. on August 15, the 60th Independence Day celebration began with a prayer. School Correspondent Mr. M. Karunanithi welcomed the special guests: Swami Shantananda Puri from Himalayas, Japanese well-wishers to our school Mr. Tabuchi, Ms. Youko Yosida and Ms. Kyouko Yosizawa, teachers, parents and friends. Then the students performed a fast march.
After Swami Shantananda Puri unfurled the national flag, he spoke to the students about kindness and Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi. He said that Bhagavan was even kind to the monkeys, squirrels, crows, snakes and all the animals.
The student cultural program included the Bharatha Natiyam, National song and dance, and Amman song and dance. Mr. Tabuchi and the visitors from Japan sang a Japanese song and distributed prizes to the students who won the Camel Coloring Contest. Swamiji awarded prizes to last year’s 10th standard students who received first and second place in the Government Public Examination, which was held in April.
The program concluded with dumbbells and lazium exercises performed by the students. School Educational Advisor Mr. N. Jayabalan gave a vote of thanks and the celebration ended with the national anthem. Sweets were distributed to all the participants.
Whenever Mr. Tabuchi visits Tiruvannamalai, he teaches yoga and origami (paper creations) to the students, as he did this year after the Independence Day Celebration.
