Government Issues Only Temporary Recognition Order
New School Must Be Built by June 1, 2008
In June 2005, the Tamil Nadu Educational Director denied Arunachula Trust’s request for a Recognition Order (a government sanction allowing the school to operate), because the school building did not meet the necessary requirements. After rectifying the problems, a new application was submitted in May 2007, but in October the Director rejected the Recognition Order application again, stating that several problems were not properly satisfied. The Trust appealed saying that land had been purchased for the school, and that the school was now operating in only one building in which a stability certificate from the government had been granted. Additionally, the school bus was taking the students to the new site for recreational activities. However, the Director said that the request was still unacceptable and that the school needed to be on only one campus, adding that the present building was not adequate to operate as a school.
When representatives from the Trust pleaded with the Director on behalf of the children's education, a temporary Recognition Order was issued only through May 31, 2008 so as not to interrupt the students’ academic year. The Director said that if the new school construction is not completed by that time, the Education Department will make arrangements to transfer the students to government schools. Furthermore, if anything happens to the welfare of the students, the directors of the Trust will be solely responsible.
In summary, the Education Department denied a long-term Recognition Order, because the school building does not meet the government’s standards. However, if the new school is completed before the academic year starts on June 1, 2008, the students will not be disbanded from their school.
The Trust, teachers and students of Sri Ramana Matriculation School hope that you will help us in this time of urgency by donating to the construction of our new school. Thank you.
