Republic Day Festival
On January 26, the National Republic day was celebrated at Sri Ramana Matriculation School. The celebration began with the prayer, followed by a welcoming address given by KG Teacher Ms. Rajeshwari, who was one of the first students of the school (class of 1988 to 1998). She went on to complete her teaching studies and has recently become a teacher at the school.
School Correspondent Mr. Karunanithi welcomed the special guest, Mr. Joseph Keicken from Netherlands, presenting him with a white shawl. Then, the Correspondent conducted the unfurling of the national flag and delivered a message to the students about India becoming a democratic country. He stressed the importance of being able to freely elect the nation’s leaders without being influenced by bribes or threats.
Mr. Keicken expressed his admiration to India and its great leaders, such as Gandhi, and its sages, such as the Buddha, Ramakrishna and Ramana Maharshi. Next, English Teacher Mr. Manikandan gave a speech about the republic, followed by vote of thanks given by Primary Teacher Ms. Jenifer Flora. The celebration ended with the National Anthem and sweets distributed to everyone.
At 10:00 a.m., a fancy-dress competition, quiz contest and dance performances were held. The School Correspondent presented special guest Mr. Roger May Bank from Canada with a white shawl and welcomed the attendees. Mr. Joseph Keicken, Mr. Roger May Bank and Mr. Manikandan judged the fancy-dress contestants, which included Goddess Sakthi, Lord Krishna, Gandhiji, Angel and Church Father. Primary Teacher Ms. Ramya conducted the quiz contest. Bharatham was performed by a ninth-standard girl student, Amman dance was performed by a group of primary-student girls, western dance was performed by upper-class boy students, a Native American dance was performed by Mr. Joseph Keicken, folk dance was performed by a group of upper-class girl student, national dance was performed by primary-class boy students and a vigorous Amman dance was performed by History Teacher Mr. Arunachalam. The event concluded after prizes were distributed to the performers.
