A Prayer for World Peace and a Day Caring
for the Environment
Teaching our students about the importance of peace in the world will
help create a peaceful world in the future. On September 20, some of
our students and teachers made a unique prayer for world peace by chanting
108 repetitions of Gayatri Mnatra. We did this for another purpose
as well—to support Ms. Karina Stewart from Scotland, who did
an 108 Sun Salutation event to raise funds for the construction of
our new school building (see bottom photo).
In School Correspondent Karunanithi’s
gave introduction speech, he explained the meaning of the Gayatri Mantra
and the need for world peace. Chanting began at 10:15 a.m. and was
completed at 11:00 a.m. All were sincere in their efforts, with many
experiencing a. freshness in the mind. After the chant, milk, biscuits
and bananas were served.
On September 21, several students and two teachers
spent the morning caring for trees along the path to Skandasramam on
Arunachala Mountain. At 6:45 a.m., the group participated in the Milk
Puja at Sri Ramanasramam and then ate idlies, prepared at our free
hostel, under a tree at the Ramanasram. After that, they took three
or four tree saplings to Skandasram and put manure under the trees
on both sides of the path along the way. Upon finishing the work at
11:30, they ate idlies, biscuits and bananas. Then they returned to
the school by van after visiting Virubaksha Cave.
