Volunteer Welcomed and National Independence Day Celebrated
In December 2007, Professor of Religious Studies Mr. Phillip Lucas of Stetson University in America had visited our school. Returning home, he encouraged his students to do volunteer teaching at our school. One of his students, Mr. Terence Keyes, an English Literature Graduate, responded to his suggestion and has come here to teach English. Since July 23, he has been teaching English to primary through secondary classes. Both the students and teachers are benefiting from his work and are grateful to him.
On August 15 at 8:00 a.m., we celebrated National Independence Day. The celebration took place at the school’s new site. Mathematics Teacher Mr. Mathiarasu welcomed the participants. I presented Mr. Terence Keyes with a shawl and mementos as our guest. Then, I hoisted the national flag and gave a speech about Independence. Mr. Terence also spoke to the students. After the students performed a march, Mr. Terence Keyes awarded prizes to Sathiya and Gouthamraj who secured first and second mark in last year’s tenth standard public examination.
The English Teacher Mr. Manikandan gave the closing talk. After singing the national anthem, sweets were distributed to the participants.
