Message from the Founder

Arunachalam Trust FounderAs founder of the Trust, I was aware of the great need of disadvantaged children in this region to receive a good education. These children often go through their lives without any chance to improve their physical or mental situation. Additionally, I was inspired to improve both the environmental and medical conditions of my community. Since the Trust was founded, I have been continually encouraged and supported by kind hearted people from around the world who have joined with us to achieve the Trust’s mission. — M. Karunanithi

About Sri Ramana Matriculation School

The school was founded in 1988 in the guiding light of the world proclaimed sage Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi: "Know thyself". It is funded by the non-profit organization - Arunachalam Trust.

Sri Ramana Matriculation School provides quality education to disavantaged children from the rural communities surrounding Arunachala in Tiruvannamalai.

Arunachalam Trust depends on the generosity of donors like you. Some children wishing to attend Sri Ramana Matriculation School have lost their parents or have parents who earn minimum wages and are only able to pay a small portion of their child's education.

Families wishing to have their child attend the school are interviewed to determine their financial needs and abilities. If the family meets the Trust's criteria, their child will attend the school for one year to be evaluated on academic ability, motivation and conduct. If the student is approved a financial sponsor is sought.

By supporting Arunachalam Trust, you will make a difference in a child's life.

School Sponsorships

Donations to the school are used for books, school fees, transportation costs, school uniforms and lunches needed for students during their evaluation period. School sponsorships also support school upkeep and equipment, educational programs, teachers' wages, and the medical and environmental programs.

At the moment, the school particularly needs funds to finish the construction of the new building, set up a library, a computer room and a laboratory.

If you want your donation to be allocated to specific purposes or to sponsor one child in particular, please inform Arunachalam Trust by email. Thank you.

Your support is also very welcome if you wish to volunteer for the school.

COMMUNITY & ENVIRONMENTAL CARE PROGRAMS

Environmental Project: Each year students plant fruit bearing trees in one of the neighboring communities to help preserve and restore the local environment. During the project, students learn about plants and how to care for them. Residents of the community also benefit from the project by receiving an additional source of income from the gathered fruit.

Medical Project: Each year students learn about one major health concern affecting their community and are taught about disease prevention and healthy living practices from medical professionals. Residents of the community benefit from the project by receiving health education and free immunizations or other medical assistance.
